LCSO BATAAN DEATH MARCH TRIBUTE EVENT
The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office will host the 6th Annual Tribute March to the American and Filipino forces that were forced to march more than 60 miles in the Philippine jungle during WWII. The proceeds from the tribute march will benefit the Rotary Club of Valdosta, specifically to the fund to aid Public Officers and their families in times of need. Last year we had close to 120 marchers, with only a handful completing all legs and PT events throughout the course. There was a showing from Moody AFB, LCSO, Boy Scouts, VFD, VPD, and varied other agencies and organizations made 2025 another great year! We are hoping for that again in 2026.
We will meet at the LCSO Range on April 18th, 2026 at 0700 hours. The march will begin shortly thereafter. Participants will pay a $25.00 entry fee, which will cover your donation to the Valdosta Rotary Club.
The course will be broken up into three legs, each approximately 8.7 miles long. For a full completion of the event, the participants will cover a 26-mile+ course. We will provide support vehicles throughout the event. It is up to the marcher to decide if they are marching “slick” or “rucking it”. Upon the completion of each leg, the participant will have the option of opting out if they feel they can’t go on. However, we encourage all to complete the entire march.
Course maps will be provided the day of the event. Please bring comfortable footwear (maybe a couple of pairs), a change of socks (not cotton), food for the day, as well as liquid refreshments for yourselves. The support vehicles will carry your gear and supplies, or you can opt to leave them at the staging area, as you will return there three times during the event.
We hope to have a large turnout for the event and hope to see as many employees as possible participating. Plan for a long day of testing yourself, both physically and mentally.
