GCS Excels at Area Math Competition
On Tuesday, December 6, 2011, the Georgia Christian School Math Team competed in the Valdosta State University Mathematics Tournament hosted by the Mathematics and Computer Science Department. One of our senior AP Calculus students, Sooyean Jun, claimed second place in the individual competition. Along with Sooyean, the other three team members, Woo Jin Jang, Jordan Greene, and Minh Tran contributed significantly for the team to secure second place overall.
The contest consisted of a written examination with twenty-five multiple choice and free-response questions. The students were given fifty minutes to complete the contest. The GCS Math Team was the only team representing a private school. Ten schools were represented at the contest. After the contest the students participated in some fun math related activities while waiting for the results.
On Saturday, December 10, 2011, Georgia Christian's Homecoming Court was presented. It was a patriotic theme and each of the representatives publically thanked a veteran that had made a difference in their lives. And congratulations to the GCS 2011 Homecoming Queen and King: Miss Rebekah Swilley and Mr. Ryan King!
This year's book fair theme was "Saluting Our Heroes". Students wrote about their individual heroes and classes made huge banners thanking their hero. Family Night included a chile supper and heroes attending in uniform or costume.
(cont. from Home page) The elementary students learned a poem, song, and created many wonderful Christmas decorations from their country. The middle school students were our news reporters and onsite witnesses as Santa made his way around the globe. The students did an excellent job! We hope everyone enjoyed this program.
